SEA-EU-NET is sponsoring a workshop, titled "EU-Southeast Asia Workshop on Biofuels Development: Opportunities for Collaboration". It will be held on November 3-4 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The workshop will consist of three main parts. For the first part, speakers will be invited to talk in the areas of:
- Second-Generation Biofuels
- Biorefinery / Alternative Biofuels Production
- Bioenergy Feedstock Breeding

For each topic, there will be one speaker from the EU, and one from the SEA, to give their respective regional perspectives. Aimed to bring everyone up to speed, the talks will update researchers on the latest activities in the two regions. For the second part, after the talks, there will be breakout sessions, one for each specific research area, for the researchers to network, discuss ongoing work, and brainstorm future collaboration. The third part will be a field trip to a cellulosic bioethanol plant.

The primary objective of this workshop is to introduce EU and SEA researchers to their counterparts and to provide them with an opportunity to brainstorm future collaborative efforts, possibly toward funding within the European Framework Programme for Research.
